Approximately one hundred and seventeen billion people have walked this earth, each with dreams, fears, and motivations that have shaped the world we live in today. Yet how many of these dreams were remembered? How many fears were overcome, or ambitions realized? In the immense scale of human history, how can any individual truly leave a lasting impact? This portfolio strives to explore the tension between individual significance and the overwhelming scale of human existence. History so often reduces humanity into crowds and numbers, forgetting the names of the people that helped to shape it.

Confrontation with this scale is uncomfortable, leading many to push these existential concerns into the background. As I have begun to face and explore these ideas myself, I have noticed a shift in my own perspective, causing me to reflect on what actions I can take each day to leave some form of impact. Many of the more trivial concerns of everyday life have started to feel less significant, replaced by a growing desire to pursue a life that leaves a mark, however large or small, on the world around me.

Using photography as my medium, I strive to visualize this contradiction between scale and individual impact. I find myself drawn to perspectives that communicate this contrast, making the individual appear powerful and insignificant at the same time. Influenced by sprawling environments, repetition, and isolation, my images aim to reflect my own struggles with these worries. The goal is not to explore whether individual lives ultimately matter, but to force confrontation with scale and the uncertainty that stems from it.
